Everyone has stress in their life; it’s virtually unavoidable. Chronic stress can lead to premature ageing, unhealthy weight gain, cravings for unhealthy foods, weaken your immune system and mess with your sleep. A happy, healthy and balanced life can still exist, depending on how we deal with the stresses of our daily life.
Here are a few of the many techniques that you can use to come back into balance when you are feeling overwhelming stress:
1) Exercise. A good, vigorous workout can bust that stress. Do whatever exercise you love best. Note that hitting a punching bag can be particularly cathartic.
2) Breathe. I’ve detailed my favourite breathing exercise here. The point of breathing is to enter a bit of a meditative state, at least for a few moments. Get out of your head and into the present moment.
3) Get out in nature. Notice the beauty around you. Take deep breaths of fresh air. Hike.
